Guilin, in the northeast part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of CHINA, is famous for its natural occurring calcium carbonate and limestone formations. About 320 million years ago Guilin lay in a boundless sea on bedrock of limestone 3000 to 4000 meters thick. Quaternary movements, associated with the uplift of Tibet, thrusted Guilin above the sea from over 200 meters deep.  Shortly following, sea water from the southeast flooded the sea basin from Guilin eastward to Changsa, in neighboring Hunan Province. Again, Guilin was submerged to the bottom of the sea. Through constant crustal movements, 180-200 million years ago, Guilin was thrust up again from the sea. The geological structure of Guilin is limestone and the main composition is calcium carbonate.
